Another hit and favorite of all Canadians is Banff! Located just a short 4 hour drive from Edmonton, or if you’re from Calgary maybe a 2 hour drive! The Banff area is home to some of the best scenery of the Rocky Mountains including Mt. Rundle and Mt. Cascade. You can choose to stay right in town and enjoy Banff Avenue and all its boutiques, restaurants, and souvenir shops. The surrounding 6,500 square kilometres of parkland are home to wildlife including elk and grizzly bears so bring your camera. If you love viewing awesome scenery, waterfalls, rivers, and love good food then you have come to the right place! One of our most memorable restaurants in Banff is the Grizzly House. The Grizzly House is known as a ‘landmark destination’ and has the most unique fondue menu which ranges from beef, buffalo and chicken to rattlesnake, shark and wild game.
Prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Banff then head down to Canmore! Canmore is a town in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains about a 20-minute drive from to Banff. Canmore is cute, quaint, trendy and the home of young athletic outdoorsy types. There’s gift shops, restaurants, and Canmore is home to summits like the Three Sisters and Ha Ling Peak. Banff is historical, touristy, classy, closer to Lake Louise and famous! Be sure to check out the gondola, and the hot springs during your visit as well.
Kananaskis is just a short drive from Banff and is such a pretty area. You can enjoy a day of hiking and cycling the main activities. There are many great places to stay in Kananaskis. If you are wanting a quiet relaxing stay then Crosswaters Resort is a favourite, it is much quieter as it is located further from the major highway. It has easy access to walking/hiking trails, where you can enjoy a quiet afternoon/evening and wildlife spotting.
